Ventura County Tree Pros is a free referral service for homeowners and property owners who need tree removal, tree trimming, stump grinding, palm work, or storm cleanup anywhere in Ventura County. You tell us about your trees, and we connect you with one independent local tree service that works in your area. We don’t do tree work ourselves, and there’s no cost to you.
Ventura County’s trees are as varied as its landscape: coast live oaks and valley oaks in the Conejo Valley and foothills, towering eucalyptus windbreaks along old farm roads, sycamores along creeks and barrancas, palms lining coastal streets, and backyard citrus and avocado. Each species needs different care, and the county’s Santa Ana winds, dry summers, and wildfire risk make good tree care more than cosmetic.
Why use a free referral service
- One request, one tree service. No calling around. We pass your request to one independent local contractor who covers your city.
- Verify before you hire. Tree work is dangerous. Always verify a contractor’s license at cslb.ca.gov before hiring. Confirm insurance, too.
- Local, honest information. Our guides cover protected trees, nesting season, fire season, and pruning practices without scare tactics or invented prices.
- No obligation. Get an estimate and decide.
What affects the cost of tree work
We don’t publish prices because they vary so much. The main factors:
- Size and species. Height, trunk diameter, and wood type change the work.
- Location and access. Trees near the house, over fences, or in backyards without equipment access need more rigging and labor.
- Hazards. Power lines, dead or decayed wood, and structures below add complexity.
- Scope. Trimming, removal, stump grinding, and debris haul-away are often priced separately.
- Permits. Protected trees may require an arborist report and a city or county permit.
- Urgency. Emergency storm work can cost more than scheduled work.
Typical timeline
- Request and site visit. The tree service looks at the tree and talks through options.
- Written estimate listing exactly what will be done and what’s included.
- Permit, if needed, for protected trees.
- The work, usually a day or less for a single tree, longer for large jobs.
- Cleanup, including chipping, hauling, and stump grinding if included.

Frequently asked questions
Is Ventura County Tree Pros a tree service company?
No. We're a free referral service that connects property owners with independent local tree service contractors. We don't do tree work, and the company you hire is responsible for its license, insurance, permits, and work.
How much does tree removal cost?
It varies with the tree's size, species, condition, and location. A tall tree leaning over a house, near power lines, or in a backyard with no equipment access costs more than an open-yard tree. Stump grinding and haul-away may be priced separately. Get a written estimate after a site visit.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree?
Sometimes. Several Ventura County cities and the County of Ventura protect certain trees, such as native oaks, and may require a permit before removal or major pruning. Check your city's tree ordinance before any work.
When is the best time to prune trees here?
It depends on the species. Many trees can be pruned during their dormant season, while some are best pruned at other times. Nesting season in spring and summer requires extra care because active bird nests are protected.
What should I do if a tree falls on my house?
Get everyone out of danger, stay far away from any downed power lines, and call 911 or SCE if lines are involved. Once it's safe, document the damage and contact your insurance company, then request emergency tree service.
Can a tree service trim near power lines?
Only qualified line-clearance workers should work near energized lines. For trees touching or near utility lines, contact SCE. Many tree services won't work within certain distances of lines.
What is an ISA Certified Arborist?
It's a professional credential from the International Society of Arboriculture that shows a person has passed an exam on tree care knowledge. It's a useful sign of expertise, but it isn't the same as a California contractor license.
What is defensible space?
Defensible space is the area around a home where vegetation is managed to slow wildfire and give firefighters room to work. CAL FIRE and the Ventura County Fire Department publish guidance on what's required in fire hazard areas.
Do you share my information with multiple companies?
No. We send your request to one independent local tree service that covers your area.
